Exporting DXF longitudinal section drawings

Exporting DXF longitudinal section drawings

The option Export   DXF Long Section in the File menu displays and then exports a DXF drawing showing pipe long sections with chainages, pipe invert levels and ground surface levels. This DXF file can be read by almost all CAD programs and forms the basis of a construction drawing to which you can add notes, a title block and other details.

This option also allows you to check the correctness of systems being designed, or established systems, by viewing long sections and checking HGLs, surface and invert levels.

You first need to specify a route by nominating the first and last node in a long section. This can be completed by either selecting Add a Route (using mouse) or Add a Route (using keyboard)If there is no clear route, an error message will appear.

Clicking on the Next>> button will then display the section as shown below:

The Customise button will allow features of the drawing to be defined.

These include:

  • an aspect ratio, defining the ratio of horizontal to vertical scales,
  • a box which can be clicked to include information on the highest hydraulic grade line established in calculations.
  • line width multipliers to vary lines,
  • the datum for the plot,
  • a starting chainage, if this is other than zero (the Project Options item in the Project menu allows you to define chainages as moving upwards or downwards through the pipe system), and
  • a text size multiplier.

The Save as DXF and Print buttons will save and print the drawing. For a typical pipe system you would normally produce several long sections for different branches of the system.
