Select Storms property sheets

Select Storms property sheets

These are two dialog boxes called from the Project menu, via the Select Major Storms and Select Minor Storms options when individual storms have been specified in the Project Options property sheet. They are not used when ensembles of ARR 2019 rainfall patterns are being used.

The boxes are used to nominate the multiple storms to be used for Design or Analysis runs. Usually the Major Storms will be used for analysis and the Minor Storms for design.

For each you will have the option of choosing All stormsSelected storms or Select ARI.  If you choose Selected Storms, a number of scrolling windows will appear, as above. Clicking the arrow to the right reveals a menu of available rainfall patterns. You can scroll down these and highlight the storm you wish to select. You can do this for a number of storms, defining the ones you plan to use in Design or Analysis runs.

While this process may seem complex at first, it provides considerable flexibility. You can choose a set of storms to apply in Design or Analysis runs. DRAINS will run with all of these and select the "worst case" ones giving the greatest flowrates. If you wish to apply different storms over various parts of the catchment, you can do so by defining a set of storms here, and selecting those that apply to each sub-catchment from the Customise Storms dialog box called from the Pit property sheet.

The Select ARI option allows you to choose all the storms of a given ARI, as shown below.
