Rainfall Data property sheet (non ARR procedures)

Rainfall Data property sheet (non ARR procedures)

This window is used to enter and to display the rainfall patterns required when hydrological models that produce hydrographs are being used.

It is used to input:
      (a)  temporal patterns from Australian Rainfall and Runoff, 1987;

      (b)  individual patterns entered by the user (which may include probable maximum precipitation and actual, recorded storms);

      (c)  synthetic storm patterns used with the extended rational method;

      (d)  individual storm patterns selected from ARR 2019 rainfall ensembles.

A different sheet is used to enter and display full ARR 2019 rainfall ensembles. and another property sheet is used for rational method inputs.
Thie dialog box described here sets up a data base of rainfall patterns that can be assembled in various ways. If you wish to run through a series of rainfall patterns in Design or Analysis runs, you can define these here, and select them in the property sheets opened by choosing Select Storms in the Project menu. Sets of patterns defining areally-varying storms over various sub-catchments can also be entered here.

If patterns are already defined, the first one will be shown. You can scan through any others using the small arrows in the spin box displaying the storm number.
If there are no storms, or a new storm is to be added, you can:

      (a) click the Add an ARR87 Storm button, which will call up a new dialog box to input a pattern from Australian Rainfall and Runoff;

      (b) click on the Add multiple ARR87 storms button to enter a set of multiple storms of various average recurrence intervals and durations, using data downloaded from the Bureau of Meteorology website, or numbers extracted from Volume 2 of Australian Rainfall and Runoff;

      (c) if the rational method is enabled on your license, click the Add Synthetic Storm button to develop a synthetic storm for use with the extended rational method;
        or
      (d) click the Add a New Storm button and fill in information directly, providing:
            -  the storm name,
            -  the antecedent moisture condition or catchment wetness prior to the start of the storm,
            -  the average recurrence interval of the storm (for possible use in the rational method - for recorded storms enter the approximate ARI and for probable maximum precipitation storms enter '999')
            -  the storm’s total duration (minutes),
            -  the time interval for the inputted hyetograph values (minutes),
            -  intensities (mm/h) entered through the scrolling display with the headings "Time (mins)" and "Intensity  (mm/h)",
            -  any comments about the storm pattern.

The Paste button allows you to import rainfall data from a spreadsheet.

You can make corrections to existing patterns by directly altering the numbers and clicking the OK button. You can delete an existing pattern using the Delete Current Storm button.

The antecedent moisture condition may differ for different rainfall patterns, so specific values should be entered.
