IFD Data property sheet

IFD Data property sheet

This window is used to enter nine values that must be read from charts in Volume 2 of Australian Rainfall and Runoff (1987), to define rainfall intensities for the purpose of establishing standard rainfall burst patterns to be used in the DRAINS program.  It is also used to define I-F-D relationships used by the rational method.

The nine values are read off maps of various parts of Australia. The values corresponding to a particular place can be used to calculate the rainfall intensity-frequency-duration (IFD) relationship for that location.

You need to enter:

  • 2 year average recurrence interval rainfall intensities, for durations of 1, 12 and 72 hours,

  • 50 year ARI intensities for durations of 1, 12 and 72 hours,

  • a value of rainfall logarithmic skewness, G, and

  • values of factors F2 and F50 that are used to calculate 6 minute duration intensities.

When these are entered, pressing the OK button returns you to the dialog box from where you opened this IFD data property sheet.

In addition to adding single design storms, DRAINS can define multiple storms of various frequencies and durations from 1987 and 2019 data sources. In almost all instances, the 2019 data is the most appropriate, but it may still be necessary to run ...
