This is the most widely-used hydrological manual in Australia, originally produced by the Institution of Engineers, Australia. There have been four editions, released in 1958, 1977, 1987 (reissued 1998) and 2019.
Some parts of the 1987 edition, edited by David Pilgrim and Ray Canterford, are still relevant to current stormwater management practice.
The 2019 edition, edited by James Ball, Mark Babister and others, was initially released in November 2016. Book 9 'Runoff in Urban Areas' was updated and re-released in December 2018 with the inclusion of Chapter 6 'Modelling Approaches'. The final release of ARR Version 4 was release in May 2019. Administration of the document has passed from Engineers Australia to Geoscience Australia, and is available at www.arr.ga.gov.au.
The main document, termed the ARR Guideline, can be downloaded and read on an ePub reader, or it can be accessed in HTML form on the web. The data provided as a result of the ARR revision - the I-F-D design rainfalls and other data from the ARR Data Hub - are essential for urban drainage analysis.
DRAINS can perform design and analysis calculations with the 2016 rainfall intensities and 2019 temporal patterns, using ensembles of ten rainfall patterns.
