Toolbar

The Toolbar at the top of the Main Window contains several buttons. The four buttons to the left are used for opening files, cutting and pasting components and printing. If you lay your mouse pointer on these, a short message will appear near the pointer, and another message will also appear on the Status Bar at the bottom of the Window, if this is in view.

The buttons in the centre are drawing tools for the various components in DRAINS. They are grouped into three sections:

  1. tools for drawing nodes (nodesbridgesheadwallsdetention basins or pits),
  2. tools for drawing links (pipesprismatic channelsirregular channelsmulti-channelsoverflow routesstream routing reachespumpsspecial weirs and special orifices),
  3. a tool for drawing sub-catchments.
They can also be called from the Draw menu.

All of these tools change the cursor pointer to a pencil that can be used to draw components of the system. Once you enter a component, the cursor again takes the form of the pointer. However, if you hold down the Shift key when entering a component, the pencil will still remain, and other components of the same type can be entered.

A zoom button is also placed on the toolbar for convenient access, together with a panning button.
