Multi-channel

Multi-channel

This is a type of link used in DRAINS to model complex multiple pipes located between the same nodes or pits, as in the example below:

You can specify various combinations of open channels and pipes using the Multi Channel property sheet.  Any number of conduits can be defined, these can have different lengths, invert levels and other characteristics.

Care should be taken in using this object with open channel systems. It essentially operates as a pipe and may not model situations such as headwalls accurately.

Following a run, peak flowrates through the entire multi-channel are presented in the Main Window. If multiple storms are used, the results for a particular storm can be selected from the pull-down menu in the top-left corner of the drawing area. Detailed flows can be examined using options in the Pop-Up (right mouse button) menu. It is not possible to present the flowrates or characteristics for individual conduits, as DRAINS models the multi-channel as one conduit with characteristics equivalent to those of the combined individual conduits.
