Spatial data (with x and y coordinates) is set out in a number of possible map projections. When DRAINS imports a background and other data from CAD or GIS files, these will be to one of the common projection systems used. Generally, you will not need to specify a projection unless you are working with MapInfo imports and exports (ESRI and CAD programs do not ask for projections to be named).
The projections likely to be used in Australia are:
Map Grid of Australia 1994 (MGA94), which is the recommended grid for new work,
Australian Map Grids (AMG66 and AMG94), older systems that are obsolete, and
State map grids such as ISG in New South Wales, that are also obsolete.
You may use plain x-y coordinates, which are termed 'Non-Earth' in MapInfo. Further information can be found in GIS manuals and Help systems and on the Internet.
A catchment is an area of land or other type of surface draining to a point in a drainage system, defined by its topography and the catchment boundaries or divides. For most hydrological applications, catchments are horizontal projections of the ...
It is first necessary to establish a system that is capable of being run, such as the demo example shown below: Selecting the MapInfo files option from the File -> Export menu presents the following message: If you continue, you will then need to ...
The following table sets out the differences between the two hydraulic models used in DRAINS: These differences have developed due to the way that DRAINS developed. Initially, flow depths and characteristics were calculated by a combination of ...
The latest rainfall intensities and depths to be used in design and analysis procedures are obtained after completing the previous steps from the ARR Data Hub. If you want to obtain the 2016 IFDs separately to the ARR Data Hub click here. This ...
(a) Introduction This model, now obsolete, was the original hydraulic calculation procedure applied to pipe and open channel systems in DRAINS. In December 2010, this method was superseded by the Lite & Full Unsteady hydraulic models. It has been ...
